Ruling AKP preparing to double departure tax for citizens wishing to travel abroad

Turkey’s ruling AKP will submit a new omnibus bill to Parliament which includes a 100 percent price hike to the departure tax, according to reporting by online news outlet T24. Turkish citizens wishing to travel abroad are currently required to pay 150 liras before leaving the country.

Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) is working on a new omnibus bill and will submit it to Parliament. According to the bill, the departure tax will be increased from 150 liras to 300 liras.

The bill includes other financial measures such as support to certain businesses and workers. The bill will be submitted to Parliament after being approved by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, online news outlet T24 reported on Oct. 3.

The departure tax had been most recently hiked in March from 50 liras to 150 liras.
