Gaziantep Gov. Davut Gül told state-run Anadolu Agency that authorities had distributed food to 7,000 people who could not move their cars on the Tarsus-Adana-Gaziantep (TAG) highway.

Gov. Gül said that teams had rescued 2,800 people stuck in their cars as of 10 a.m. on Jan. 19, but that another 2,800 were still waiting to be rescued.

“1,780 vehicles have been rescued; 2,800 citizens have been rescued as of 10 a.m. but we believe that another 2,800 people are stuck on the road,” the governor said.

Snow covered the Gaziantep city center, with its height reaching 49 cm. In high altitudes, the snow height was reported to be 1 meter. Authorities have asked people to stay at home.
