A Turkish court sentenced former co-chair of Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Sebahat Tuncel to 11 months in prison on charges of "insulting" the president, because she said Erdoğan was "an enemy of women and Kurds."
Turkish police on July 14 detained 33 people in a raid against Kurdish politicians in the southeastern province of Antep. eoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Provincial Branch head Musa Aydın, the district branch heads of Şahinbey and Şehitkamil, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) provincial chair, two village heads and a lawyer were among those detained.
A former co-mayor from the pro-Kurdish Democratic Regions Party (DBP) was convicted and acquitted in two separate cases that he's accused of collecting medication for the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). Bitlis prosecutors decided last week not to prosecute Ahmet Demir, who has been behind bars for four years. However, the co-mayor was previously convicted in a separate case on the same legal grounds and received a seven-year prison sentence.
