The İYİ Party is in disarray after deputy Ümit Özdağ claimed that the party's Istanbul chair, Buğra Kavuncu, is a Gülenist. While Kavuncu blasted the allegations and said that he will file a complaint against Özdağ, İYİ Party leader Meral Akşener said that the legal process gives the deputy the opportunity to prove his claims.
Opposition Good (İYİ) Party leader Meral Akşener's press adviser Murat İde was briefly detained on Oct. 8 for a column he wrote in 2015. The adviser slammed the detention, implying that the government was controlling the law enforcement, as well as the judiciary.
Only oppositional and independent outlets such as Cumhuriyet, Evrensel, Birgün, Yurt and the daily newspaper Sözcü published FinCEN Files and the Turkish involvement. All digital, independent media did report on it as well. None of the government-controlled newspapers and digital outlets did.
İYİ Party leader Meral Akşener has slammed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for "giving the youth a massive prison," as she commented on the unemployment figures and the economy. "You gave them unemployment, hopelessness and depression," Akşener said. Your gift to the youth is a country that they don't feel belonging to and that they can't breathe in," she added.
Davutoğlu says he is open for dialogue with Demirtaş following his call for unity among opposition parties
Opposition politicians have continued to respond to former HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş's remarks on unity among the opposition, with Future Party leader Ahmet Davutoğlu leaving the door open for dialogue. "In principle, I find it appropriate to talk to anyone who believes in democracy and who distanced themselves from terror for the future of this country," Davutoğlu told daily Sözcü on Sept. 15.
A marriage registrar of the AKP-run Çorum Municipality has been dismissed from duty after he referred to opposition İYİ Party chair Meral Akşener as "my honorable leader" during a marriage ceremony. AKP Mayor Halil İbrahim Aşgın replaced registrar Erdem Sakınmaz with a new marriage registrar, without citing a reason for this dismissal.
İYİ Party leader Akşener on Aug. 12 paid a visit to DEVA chair Babacan to congratulate him for his new party. The two opposition leaders later held a press meeting, during which Babacan was asked if he would consider joining the People's Alliance of the AKP and MHP should such an offer come. "What we need to focus on is to complete the process of producing and [party] organization," Babacan said in response to the question.
As Turkish politics have been reduced to a binary dichotomy between the government bloc and the opposition, İYİ Party plays a somewhat unifying and dampening effect in that regard. But while the government is out of touch with the people, the opposition is not tuned in with it either.
Former MHP deputy Cemal Enginyurt has said it was him who started the legal process that led to the cancellation of a dissident-led congress back in 2016 aiming to challenge the leadership of Devlet Bahçeli. “When Meral Akşener won the congress with 715 votes on June 19, it was me who took the case to the court. It was me that led to the cancellation of the congress, which they had won," Enginyurt said on Aug. 5.

Turkey's Presidency mandated that everyone who will attend the July 15, 2016 coup attempt memorial ceremony be tested for COVID-19. One politician noted that none of the deputies are tested for general sessions and that the precaution is required for being in the president's presence.
