A 30-year-old Chinese tourist who got lost on a hike in the southern province of Antalya was rescued by the local gendarmerie and the National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE). The officers wore masks and gloves while rescuing Jingyun Lan due to the coronavirus pandemic that's killed 59 people in Turkey as of March 25.
The Municipality of Istanbul (IBB) has purchased 60 vehicles of two different models to replace the horse-drawn carriages of the city's Princes Islands following a decision made in December 2019 to transition to wheeled electric vehicles. While 40 of the vehicles seat 13 people, the rest are four-seaters that will be used on-demand by residents who have a hard time navigating the sloping landscape.
Turkey wishes to increase the number of its Russian tourists, Turkey's Ambassador to Russia, Mehmet Samsar, said on Feb. 27, noting the importance of tourism in Ankara and Moscow's diplomatic ties. In 2019, 7 million Russian tourists visited Turkey, mostly the Mediterranean resort city of Antalya.
An American couple hunted two mountain goats in the southeastern province of Adıyaman. The mountain goats in the southeast of Turkey are sacred in the Alevi faith, adhered to by a majority of the local population. While the illegal hunting of mountain goats is fined with 26,000 Turkish Lira (about $4,500), some 19 goats were hunted down in December 2019.
