Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has announced that the electricity company had cut off power to his house.
On Feb. 9, Kılıçdaroğlu had announced that he would not pay his electricity bills until the government would withdraw the exorbitant electricity price hikes.
In a statement shared on social media on April 21, Kılıçdaroğlu said that his “resistance” aimed to “be a voice to families and children left in dark.”
“I have just heard from my wife that we have our electricity cut. As you all know, our country is going through a difficult time. They ruined our households. Their price hikes exceeded 400 percent....My action is not a call for civil disobedience. It is a resistance,” he said.
Kılıçdaroğlu also said that 3.4 million people in Turkey had their electricity cut off in 2021.
