Turkey’s main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has penned a letter of condolence to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad over the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes which also created widespread destruction in Syria.
In his letter, Kılıçdaroğlu wrote: “The big earthquake disaster that we went through on Feb. 6 has affected our country as well as Syria and put us in great pain. I have been trying to be a remedy to my people by visiting the region for approximately the last 15 days.”
“As this disaster and this pain we have experienced showed once again, we are partners and neighbors in our griefs; we share our people’s common pains. Through this way, I wish you and your people condolences and expect that not only do we share our grief in the future but also our hopes.”
On Feb. 6, magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes hit Turkey’s southeastern province of Kahramanmaraş. It created destruction not just in 10 Turkish provinces, but also in neighboring Syria, leaving thousands of people homeless.
