The mayor of the Yusufeli district of the northeastern province of Artvin, Eyüp Aytekin got stuck 80 meters above a dam while riding a zipline, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Sept. 21.

Accordingly, Aytekin wanted to try the newly built zipline above Yusufeli Dam. However, he was suspended along the one-kilometer-long cable, 80 meters above the ground.

Professional climber Tolga Albayrak reached Aytekin via the same line, and brought him to the exit point by tying the mayor to himself.

After being rescued, Aytekin told journalists that “I wanted to make the first try (of the zipline). I'm overweight, I got stuck right above the dam.” Aytekin said the trials are ongoing on the zipline built by the municipality.

Last year, the Yusufeli district was submerged underwater because of the newly constructed Yusufeli Dam and was relocated to a new location.
