Turkish police have detained the owner of a nightclub in Istanbul's Esenyurt for holding Miss Uganda beauty contest without abiding by COVID-19 measures.

Turkish police have detained the owner of a nightclub in Istanbul's Esenyurt district for holding Miss Uganda beauty contest without abiding by measures imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Police on Nov. 14 raided the nightclub and imposed fines on dozens of people, including the guests and contestants of the so-called contest.

A total of 67 people were fined 60,300 Turkish Liras in total as a result.

While the owner of the nightclub, identified only as M.K., was detained, he was also fined to pay 3,180 liras for violating COVID-19 measures.

Legal action was taken against six Ugandans, police said.
