Turkish police have detained a senior ISIS operative in Istanbul in an operation carried out with the Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MİT).
"Basim" codenamed jihadist A.S.İ.M was among the figures close to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, ISIS' former leader killed by the U.S. in 2019.
The Afghan-origin militant who had been missing for a while was determined to be in Istanbul, where he reportedly arrived with a fake passport.
MİT and police raided Basim's address in Istanbul's Ataşehir and detained the jihadist on April 28.
