Police were carrying out routine traffic controls when they spotted Syrians in a vehicle and detained two men, identified only by the initials as A.Ş. and M.R. The detained men were determined to be taking the refugees to the southern province of Adana to make them work there as agricultural workers.

The refugees told the police that they were abducted by a human smuggling gang in the southeastern province of Gaziantep upon entering Turkey and noted that their phones and money were seized. They also said that they were forced to live in inhumane conditions and were threatened to go to Adana.

They also said that the gang asked for $1,200 each to set them free. A.Ş. and M.R. were subsequently arrested.

Deportation processes of the refugees were launched.
