Turkish presidential security spends more than 500 million liras in 2022
The Turkish presidency has spent 526 million liras on security guards in 2022 as President Erdoğan is known for traveling around with an army of guards.
The Turkish presidency's security guard department spent hundreds of millions of Turkish Liras in 2022, the daily Birgün reported on Jan. 28.
The department spent 526.9 million liras last year, since President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is known for traveling around with an army of guards.
The same department spent 263 million liras in 2020 and 306 million liras in 2021.
Another 185.9 million was spent on parliament's guards in 2022, Turkish police data showed.
The budget allocated to guards was higher than that given to the department of cybercrime, narcotics, smuggling, organized crime, and intelligence.
The extreme amount of Erdoğan's guards and protection vehicles draws ire from the opposition.
