A pro-government women's rights organization has condemned a Twitter trend on reverse sexism that aims to show men how their years-long sexism affect women.
Women and Democracy Association (KADEM), of which President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's daughter Sümeyye Erdoğan Bayraktar is the deputy chair, said that the trend called "men should know their place" has come to a point that "harms our values."
"This trend that emerged with an emphasis on empathy has come to a point that harms the values we believe in. We condemn and reject that," the association said.AKP deputies voted for Istanbul Convention unaware of its content, says former deputy
Thousands of tweets were shared as part of the trend in reaction to everyday sexism in Turkey. Twitter users, including celebrities, reformed the sexist statements targeting women in a way that targeted men.
KADEM, however, said that "the existence of men and women in the society goes through mutual respect and understanding" in response to the trend.
