The French fraud office has recalled a brand of hand sanitizer gel produced in Turkey after discovering that it does not contain enough ethanol content to provide antiviral or antibacterial protection, Euronews Turkish service reported on May 20.
The brand of the hand sanitizer gel is Symex. The company has been selling this hand sanitizer in bottles of 30, 60 and 100 ml.
The fraud and consumer goods office La Direction Générale de la Concurrence, de la Consommation et de la Répression des Fraudes (DGCCRF) urged everyone who has bought the product to stop using it and take it back to the original point of sale.
The ineffectiveness of Turkey-produced hand sanitizer came to be known after the media company France Télévisions purchased it in big quantities against the Covid-19. The media company tested the gel and results showed that the gel contained just 27 percent alcohol.
