A 16-year-old child threw a stone at the election bus of the main opposition bloc Nation Alliance’s presidential candidate and Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu after he addressed citizens at an election rally in the northwestern province of Sakarya.

Accordingly, the attack happened while Kılıçdaroğlu was leaving the rally area. The police detained the child who threw the stone which broke the window of the bus.

After it was learned that the person who threw the stone at the bus was a 16-year-old child, Kılıçdaroğlu did not file a criminal complaint regarding the incident and the child was released.

In a statement, the CHP reported that Kılıçdaroğlu called CHP lawmaker Engin Özkoç and said, "Let the identity of our son not be disclosed in any way, and legal support should be given to the family. This child is the son of Turkey. Elections are temporary, it is our most important issue that the child is not harmed. The main issue is not the act the child did, but the ones who use a child for such a provocation."

The move came after a group of ultra-nationalists threw stones at the election bus of CHP Istanbul Mayor and vice presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu while he was addressing citizens during a rally in the eastern province of Erzurum on May 7.

The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) executives, including President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, have accused the Istanbul Mayor of provoking the attack against himself.
