3-storey building at Turkish university collapses

A three-storey building at Istanbul’s Arel University has collapsed, which was evacuated as a precaution prior to the incident.

A three-storey building at the private Arel University, located in Istanbul’s Küçükçekmece district, has collapsed.

The building was previously damaged because of a construction site located next to it. The collapsed building was evacuated as a precaution prior to the incident because of the damage.

Küçükçekmece district governor’s office announced that a total of six buildings, five apartments and one dormitory building, next to the construction site, were evacuated as a precaution. 

“Our citizens residing in 128 households in the evacuated buildings and 71 students staying in the dormitory were placed in hotels and guesthouses in our district. In addition, measures were taken against a possible disaster by cutting off the electricity, water and natural gas flows to the streets where the buildings are located,” it said.

No casualties were reported because of the incident.
