President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has warned members of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) to make necessary preparations before submitting omnibus bills to parliament, pro-government daily Türkiye reported on Dec. 26.

The AKP has been submitting omnibus bills to avoid the opposition's objections. They have been drawing criticism from the opposition for including faulty or unrelated articles.

According to the pro-government daily, the bills have also drawn criticism from the party management for lacking coherence.

Erdoğan was forced to intervene in the omnibus bill process after a proposal on raising the wages of healthcare workers was withdrawn due to being prepared with deficiencies. He was also disturbed by the fact that the articles in an omnibus bill concerning energy were revised twice due to being faulty, before being included in another bill prior to a debate.

The president voiced his warnings at meetings held with ministers and senior AKP officials.

"Don't bring bills that were prepared in haste and of which the effects were not thought of to parliament's agenda again," Erdoğan reportedly said.

Erdoğan's warning comes amid plummeting support for the AKP. Numerous polls show that AKP voters have been abandoning their party and Erdoğan's job approval rate has been steadily decreasing.
