French runner passes through Istanbul as part of world tour on foot

French runner Marie Leautey passed through Istanbul as part of her world tour on foot on June 24, the 445th day of her journey.

French runner Marie Leautey passed through Istanbul on June 24 as part of her world tour on foot, the Istanbul Municipality reported.

Leautey set out on her tour on Dec. 6, 2019 from the westernmost point of Europe in Portugal, and entered Turkey on June 16 through the Greek border. 

The 43-year-old athlete spent the 445th day of her tour running the Avcılar - Fatih route in Istanbul, accompanied by municipal Sports Director İ. Renay Onur for 10 kilometers of the trail.

Leautey is due to run more than 23,000 kilometers on her tour, crossing four continents and 23 countries, and is scheduled to move on to the Americas after completing the European leg of the world tour in Istanbul.
