Uknown assailants defaced the family cemetery of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu in his hometown of Trabzon by drawing a swastika on its walls, according to reporting by the daily Sözcü.

The assailants have not been yet identified, with the gendarmerie increasing the security measures for such an incident not to reoccur.

The mukhtar (local elected administrator) of Akçaabat district's Cevizli neighborhood, where İmamoğlu was born, on July 17 noticed a spray-painting of a swastika on the walls of the Istanbul mayor's family cemetery.

The mukhtar then notified the issue to the gendarmerie, who determined that another swastika was drawn on the street where İmamoğlu's cousin Cemal İmamoğlu lives.

None of the İmamoğlu family members have filed a complaint with regards to the issue, but the gendarmerie made an official report of the incident.
