The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched investigations into citizens whom it said were sharing “provocative” social media posts about the election results and voters in the quake-hit region.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into what it said were “provocative” social media posts about the election results and voters in the earthquake region.

A written statement by the prosecutor’s office on May 15 said that the social media posts in question had a characteristic of “forming deceptive, unreal and wrong perception” and attempted to “damage public order and peace by sharing information contrary to truth.”
