A man has killed his friend accidentally after mistaking him for a boar during hunting in the Aegean province of İzmir.

The man, identified only as 38-year-old İ.G., went out at night with 26-year-old Faruk Özkan to hunt the boars that enter gardens in the Tire district.

They then started waiting at different spots to hunt the animals with rifles, but things went south when Özkan decided to change his location.

Upon thinking that Özkan is a boar, İ.G. shot and killed him, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Aug. 25.

İ.G. was detained after the incident.
