Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has said that Sprite was sprayed on Formula One drivers on the podium during celebrations after the Turkish Grand Prix rather than champagne. S

Speaking to reporters after Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton's record-equalling seventh Formula One world championship on Nov. 15, Wolff noted that their celebration will include alcoholic beverages rather than the soft drink.

“We are flying home together and there's gonna be something other than Sprite which we just saw on the podium!" Wolff said.

The celebrations prompted surprise on social media since the usual spraying was not seen on the podium.

No official statement was made on the unusual move to use Sprite.

Turkish Parliament Speaker Mustafa Şentop, meanwhile, sent a sarcastic tweet following the victory of Hamilton, who at the weekend slammed the track for "being shit with a capital S."

"The track was pretty good, right champion?" Şentop said in a tweet featuring a picture of him handing Hamilton the cup on the podium.

Şentop also congratulated Hamilton for "his mind-blowing race."
