New school year kicks off in Turkey

Millions of students and teachers have returned to primary and secondary schools as the new academic year kicked off on Sept. 12 in Turkey.

Nearly 19 million students and 1.2 million teachers in primary and secondary education institutions started the 2022-2023 academic year in Turkey on Sept. 12.

The first break of the new academic year will be between Nov. 14-18, followed by a semester break between Jan. 23-Feb. 3, 2023 and a holiday between April 17-20.

The academic year will end on June 16, 2023. 

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu on Sept. 12 wished teachers and students success on Twitter.

"Wrong policies implemented in education, as in every field, destroyed the dreams of students and families for a better future, it has upset our teachers… It's almost time. We will restructure education policies with a scientific and equality-based understanding!" Kılıçdaroğlu said.
