Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has said that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan envies him, adding that he is content with it.

"He can't get me out of his mind. It seems like he envies me. I'm aware that he follows me with envy from Ankara," İmamoğlu, who is from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), said on June 10.

Saying that all the citizens of Istanbul are closely following his work, İmamoğlu noted that he is happy with the fact that Erdoğan follows as well.

"Honestly, I'm happy that Mr. President follows me and our work. He loves to do so and I'm genuinely happy about that. I also feel that he likes us and I admire this liking. In fact, I feel that there is admiration," İmamoğlu said.

"Good for me! I'm really happy about this. I think he is our close follower."

İmamoğlu also had a proposal for Erdoğan.

"I really thank him for his interest. If he likes, I would love to tour Istanbul with him. I would like to tell him about our works and correct what he knows wrong on the ground. I'm inviting him to this enjoyable tour," he said.
