Probe launched into politician for sharing picture of man hanged by Turkey
A probe was launched into a SOL Party official for sharing a picture of Hıdır Aslan, the last person hanged by Turkey in 1984. He is accused of "making propaganda of a terrorist organization."

An investigation was launched into an official from the leftist SOL Party for sharing a picture of Hıdır Aslan, the last person hanged by Turkey in 1984, ANKA News Agency reported on Dec. 25.
Murat Güzel said that he is currently accused of "making propaganda of a terrorist organization" for sharing Aslan's picture, as well as others who were hanged by Turkey following the Sept. 12, 1980 coup.
"It was understood that you were making the propaganda of the Revolutionary Path," the investigation file read.
In his testimony, Güzel said that his aim when sharing the pictures was not to commit crimes and the social media posts should be handled within the scope of the freedom of expression.
The SOL Party released a statement on the issue, saying that it expects the investigation to be dismissed without it turning into a case.
"Commemorating the revolutionaries we lost in the past can never be accepted as a crime and terror," it said.
