Turkey's Scientific and Technological Research Council (TÜBİTAK) synthesized a domestic reproduction of Favipiravir, widely used to treat COVID-19, and are waiting for the new formula to be registered.

A group of 32 scientists from Istanbul Medipol University used only domestic ingredients, Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank said on June 12 while a sample of the drug was presented to the public.

"Our Health Minister said that he had given the orders on the quick licensing of the medicine," Varank added.

While Atabay Medicine lended its facilities to the marketing of the drug, Minister Varank said that the drug would be exported once the licensing was complete.
