Turkish general dies while on duty in Syria's Idlib

Turkish Brigadier General Sezgin Erdoğan died while on duty in Syria's Idlib on Sept. 9. The Turkish Armed Forces said the the general died after “feeling unwell,” while retired colonels said on their social media accounts that Erdoğan died of a heart attack.

Turkish Brigadier General Sezgin Erdoğan lost his life while on duty in Syria's Idlib province on Sept. 9.

The Turkish Armed Forces said that Erdoğan lost his life after “falling ill,” without disclosing further information, however some retired colonels said on their social media accounts that the general had died of a heart attack.

“Brigadier General Sezgin Erdoğan felt unwell during his duty in Idlib operations area on Sept. 9, 2020, was immediately dispatched to the hospital, but could not be saved despite all interventions,” the Turkish Armed Forces said in its statement.

Earlier this year, Turkey has deployed several troops in Idlib in a challenge to Damascus and its Russian backers.
