Turkish mafia leader Alaattin Çakıcı on June 18 celebrated Father’s Day of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his ally far-right Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli.

In a Twitter message, Çakıcı said “I congratulate the Father's Day of our esteemed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, my esteemed President Devlet Bahçeli who is the father of the Turkish nationalists, and our beloved nation. May the mercy and blessings of my God be upon our beloved nation.”

Çakıcı, who stayed in jail for 16 years, was released from the Sincan Prison in the capital Ankara in April 2020, despite being convicted of numerous well-known crimes.

Çakıcı's release had been a long-term project for Bahçeli. Shortly after calling for a general amnesty on May 12, 2018, Bahçeli had paid a visit to Çakıcı in prison, who he deemed “a lover of the nation.”

In 2011, Çakıcı was sentenced to one year and eight months for his letter containing insults and threats against main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. He often targets the opposition with remarks on social media and has close ties with Devlet Bahçeli.
