Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) on Sept. 5 sent a delegation to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to meet with President Nechirvan Barzani, the party said on Sept. 6.

The delegation was led by CHP Assistant Director Oğuz Kaan and has a schedule planned to form ties in the regional government.

"We met with KRG President Nechirvan Barzani. We will continue our schedule in Kerkûk, where we will visit our Turkmen friends," CHP Foreign Relations Counsel Ünal Çeviköz said in a tweet on Sep. 6.

The CHP visit is geared toward connecting with local authorities to establish the Middle East Peace and Collaboration Organization revealed recently by CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.

"The CHP will continue to provide all constructive input it's responsible for as the main opposition, as we believe in open dialogue with our neighbors," the party said in an official statement.

The CHP will also meet with Yezidi faith leaders, officials from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Kurdistan Nationalists' Party (KYB) and the Goran Movement (Bizûtinewey Gorran).
