Citizens of Turkish origin in Sweden have highest rate of COVID-19 cases

Swedish citizens of Turkish origin have the highest rate of coronavirus of any ethnic group in Sweden, according to a report from Sweden's Public Health Agency. More than 100,000 citizens of Turkish origin live in Sweden.

Swedish citizens of Turkish origin have the highest rate of coronavirus of any ethnic group in Sweden, according to a report from Sweden's Public Health Agency.

The report covered COVID-19 cases diagnosed between March 13 and May 7 and determined that 389 people born in Turkey tested positive for the virus, accounting for a rate of 753 out of every 100,000 people. The rate for people born in Sweden was 189 out of every 100,000 people.

More than 100,000 citizens of Turkish origin live in Sweden.

Ethiopian-born residents were found to have the second-highest rate of the virus with a rate of 742 people out of every 100,000, followed by residents born in Somalia, Chile and Iraq.

The death rate was the highest among Finland-born residents, with a rate of 145 deaths per 100,000 people, while the death rate for Turkey-born residents was lower at 97 deaths per 100,000 people.
