Cost of marriage in Turkey more than quadrupled in one year to 400,000 Turkish Liras

The cost of getting married in Turkey increased by 350 percent from 2022 to 2023, from 90,000 Turkish liras on average to 400,000 liras. One of the biggest expenditures is wedding hall rent with a minimum cost of 50,000 liras.

The cost of an average traditional Turkish wedding along with a dowry, jewelry, and household items increased from 90,000 Turkish liras (~5420 dollars in July 1, 2022) in 2022 to nearly 400,000 liras (~15,560 dollars in July 2023) in 2023, according to shopping site Avantajix's "Marriage Cost Price Survey.” 

One of the most challenging expenses for newlyweds is wedding hall rents. For an organization of 300 people, even the simplest wedding serving dry cake and soft drinks starts at 50,000 liras, reported by daily Dünya. The survey expected approximately 600,000 couples to get married in 2023. 

The total price of average quality living room and bedroom furniture along with the room accessories starts at 120,000 liras. The average price of domestic appliances such as television, refrigerator, washing machine, dishwasher,irons and vacuum cleaner reached 60,000 liras even if the lowest labeled products are preferred.

Small household appliances such as curtains, carpets, and dinner sets also shake the newlyweds’ budget with their total prices reaching 50-55,000 liras. 

Wedding dress, groom's suit, photo and video shoots along with the bridal car decoration also cost approximately 50,000 liras. 

Turkish weddings are known for its extravagant jewelry ceremonies in which participants gift money, gold, and jewelry to the bride and groom. While one gram of gold costs nearly 1,600 liras, the prices of thin bracelets are about 15,000 liras.

Last year, furniture and small household appliances surpassed even the clothing sector with a transaction volume of 96.7 billion TL, becoming the sector with the highest market share in Turkey’s e-commerce industry.
