Turkish Culture Ministry to ‘certify’ theatres as COVID-19 safe
Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said that Turkey's movie theaters and theater halls will be “certified” to show that they have taken the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. The country had previously implemented a similar system on hotels and restaurants.
Turkey's movie theaters and theater halls will be vetted for COVID-19 safety through a certification program, Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said on Nov. 2.
"Most performance halls have low budgets, so we will make the certifications free of charge. No theaters will remain closed," Ersoy said.
Certification programs previously implemented for hotels and restaurants included adherence to sanitary precautions, safe distancing measures and supply of personal protective equipment.
Ersoy said that ministry officials met with proprietors and actors of private theater halls and the ministry increased assistance to theater venues by more than 300 percent.Turkey's hotels, restaurants to reopen in late May
