A deputy police chief in the southeastern province of Hakkari has been shot dead by an officer in his team, Demirören news agency reported on July 13.

The incident happened as the deceased officer Hasan Cevher was eating his lunch.

Nasul Çulcu, employed at the province's riot police organization, fired three shots at Cevher and attempted to flee from the scene of the incident, but was stopped and detained by other police officers, the Hakkari Governor's Office said in a statement.

The incident concerns a written warning Çulcu has recently been issued by Cevher over his harassment of a female colleague last year. Çulcu was also ordered to surrender his gun until the harassment investigation against him would be finalized.

Çulcu objected to this and shot Cevher in the head and shoulders. Cevher could not be saved despite all medical efforts at the Hakkari State Hospital.
