Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said on June 10 that all young men being drafted for mandatory military duty would be tested for COVID-19.
"Some 182,000 young men's deployment will be possible after the tests that we collaborate on with the Health Ministry," Akar said.
Noting that no soldiers in active war zones weren't diagnosed with the disease, the minister added that some 96 members of the military overall had tested positive.
The Defense Minister also criticized crowded scenes of farewell celebrations organized for young men who were being drafted.
"We see scenes that are not becoming of our youth. It's vital that they report to their troops in good health," Akar said.Convoy sending soldier off to military service fined thousands of liras for drifting on streets
