Turkey’s Religious Affairs Directorate (Diyanet) Foundation has reportedly purchased a private school founded by a religious cult in the capital Ankara.
The school called ASFA Ferda College, which was founded by Naqshbandi Sheikh Mahmut Esad Coşan, was purchased by foundation-held firm KOMAŞ, daily Birgün reported on June 24.
The Diyanet has been trying to increase its influence in pre-school education with its over 2,500 Quran courses across Turkey. The move to purchase a private school was interpreted as part of its said efforts.
The name of the school was changes as “TDV Ferda College,” with the foundation’s abbreviation added to it.
While the details of the purchase are not clear yet, the number of private schools belonging to the foundation increased to two. It previously purchased a school in the western province of İzmir.
KOMAŞ entered construction business in 1983 with the Kocatepe Mosque in Ankara.
