Turkey's first domestic cannabis plants "Narlı" and "Vezir," produced by Ondokuz Mayıs University researchers, are ready for harvest.

Planted on May 19, the plants are set to be harvested for the first time on Oct. 9, and are expected to be ideal for industrial use due to their fine fibers.

While the industrial cannabis plants do possess psycho-reactive properties, the researchers will work to further level those components in their work.

Director of the university's cannabis research center, Prof. Selim Aytaç noted that the plants were not genetically modified.
