'Women less likely to catch coronavirus due to estrogen'

Women are less likely to contract the novel coronavirus due to the presence of estrogen in their bodies, according to Dr. Ebru Karpuzoğlu, a specialist in molecular medicine and immunology at the University of Georgia. Women are less likely to contract the novel coronavirus due to the presence of estrogen in their bodies, according to Dr. Ebru Karpuzoğlu, a specialist in molecular medicine and immunology at the University of Georgia.

“Women's estrogen hormones monitor the immune system excellently,” said Karpuzoğlu, adding that women have a hormonal and genetic advantage that makes them less susceptible to catching the virus, as estrogen affects every organ system in the body and the level of the hormone is much lower in men.

Research also indicates that women are able to combat the virus more effectively.

“The most recent counts in the U.S. indicate that the number of women diagnosed with COVID-19 is twice as low as the number of men. In some European countries, the death rate is 70 percent men. Women produce more antibodies than men,” said Karpuzoğlu.

Moreover, older women have lower rates of obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer and heart problems compared to older men, Karpuzoğlu said.

Another important factor is the fact that women have two x chromosomes, which is instrumental in terms of the ACE2 protein in the body that the virus enters, Karpuzoğlu said, and that the second x chromosome produces the protein in such a manner that even if the virus enters the body, it cannot enter the cells in the protein, thereby making women 50 percent less likely to contract the virus.

“Eat food that you can collect, raise and hunt. So long as you abide by these three rules, your immune system will be stronger,” Karpuzoğlu said. a
