The opposition İYİ (Good) Party’s southern province of Antalya chair Mehmet Başaran has announced that 412 people had become members of their party after leaving the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP)
Among the 412 people was Mehmet Tayfur, who resigned from his position as AKP Kepez district Youth Branch vice chair.
A ceremony was held at the İYİ Party's Antalya office, where badges were given to the new members.
Başaran said at the ceremony that the İYİ Party would assume the power in the upcoming 2023 elections under the leadership of Meral Akşener.
“We are walking shoulder to shoulder to the power with our nation under the leadership of Meral Akşener, with the traces of our Republic in our souls, and with the words of our [Mustafa Kemal] Atatürk in our hearts.”
Recently, another 100 people in Antalya quit their membership with the AKP. Among them was also Emre Afacan, whom the AKP had nominated as the mayor of Antalya’s Döşemealtı district during the 2019 local elections.
According to recent surveys, the AKP's support level is markedly on the decline, whereas the İYİ Party's popularity is soaring.
