Municipality run by Turkey's ruling party buys 2019 Audi for 'rough landscape' of urban Ankara

A district municipality in Turkey's capital Ankara bought a 2019 Audi with municipal funds and said that they needed it for the rough geological landscape in the urban region.

One of the ruling Justice and Development Party's (AKP) district municipality administrations in Ankara bought a 2019 Audi car on the grounds that they needed it for the "rough geographical landscape" in the capital city, the daily Sözcü reported on Dec. 24.

The administration purchased the vehicle with the budget of the municipal Food Consumption Goods Production and Marketing Company as the cost of a 2019 luxury car wouldn't fit in the district municipality's budget.

In response to a Court of Accounts ruling that the purchase was a violation of the municipal budget's purpose, the administration claimed that they needed the Audi because of the "rough geographical landscape" in the bustling urban district of Keçiören.

However, the Audi A-6 is a passenger vehicle, which is clearly forbidden to use municipality funds to purchase, the Court of Accounts noted.
