Orhan Turan elected new TÜSİAD chair

Orhan Turan was chosen the new president of the Turkish Industry and Business Association (TÜSİAD) at the top business group’s general assembly on March 29.

Turan is replacing Simone Kaslowski, who has led the group since 2019.

Along with Turan, a new executive board has also been elected.

Turan, a member of TÜSİAD for 18 years, is a former chair of the Turkish Enterprise and Business World Confederation (TÜRKONFED).

“After half a century, TÜSİAD has successfully carried out its mission to expand understanding country and global affairs as well as the thinking of our business world,” he said in a speech at the general assembly.

“A strong rule of law and strong democracy are foundations for a just, affluent and happy life for societies. As TÜSİAD, we will continue stressing on the existential importance of the rule of law, judicial independence and freedoms for Turkey,” he said.

He added that TÜSİAD would be working together to overcome obstacles before sustainable growth and development as well as enhance productivity, employment and an environment for investments.

TÜSİAD was founded in 1971 and represents 4,500 companies.

The Turkish government and TÜSİAD have been at odds for several years. The business group has criticized the government's unorthodox monetary policy and called for the Central Bank's independence.
