Rapper Ezhel on terrorism accusations: I love Turkey in a way that you have not tried before
Rapper Ezhel said that he loved Turkey in a way that those who criticized his Kurdish ties have not tried before. Responding to criticism of a photo he took with Kurdish music producer X A T A R, Ezhel said that he loved Turkey with "everything it has to offer." The rapper said that he was tired of blocking his racist followers who called him a terrorist for taking a photo with a globally renowned producer.
Rapper Ezhel from Ankara on March 14 responded to terrorism accusations by saying that he loved Turkey a way that critics didn't know, following controversy over a photo of him with Kurdish music producer X A T A R.
"Yes I speak Kurdish, yes I support Amedspor," the rapper said about southeastern Diyarbakır's local soccer team. "I love this country in a way that you have not even tried to before. With everything it has to offer."
The rapper said that he loved Turkey despite his attackers, but feels that they will continue to slam him no matter what he does, and will call for his execution, his imprisonment and his failure.
The rapper said that he was tired of blocking his racist followers who called him a terrorist for taking a photo with a globally renowned producer, X A T A R.
"Terrorism has hit my home, killed my people and fired shots at my family too. It took lives in my Ankara that I inked on my face. It literally tears away a piece of flesh each time you call me a terrorist," the rapper said in his Instagram story.
Best known for his stage name Ezhel, Sercan İpekçioğlu was arrested on charges of encouraging and facilitating drug use in 2018, and the prosecutor sought up to 10 years for the rapper.
Ezhel was sentenced to 20 months in prison in 2019, and moved to Berlin in 2020. He's widely known for his oppositional stance against the government and solidarity with minorities.
