A truck driver was fined by traffic police for displaying a worn-out Turkish flag above his windshield in the western province of Düzce, daily BirGün reported on Nov. 17.

"Why would you hang a flag like that? You can't use a flag like this. It's worn and torn," a police officer reportedly told driver Rıdvan Mutlu.

Mutlu told the officers that he hadn't noticed the flag as he had borrowed the vehicle from someone else.

The officers fined Mutlu for "displaying an advertisement, writing, signs, photos, notices, flags without permission," a 132-lira ticket.

Mutlu tried to remove the flag after receiving the fine.
