Turkey to give pensions to families of healthcare workers who died during pandemic

Turkey's Health Ministry will pay monthly pensions to the families of healthcare workers who died during the COVID-19 pandemic, who will now be considered to have passed away on active duty. The Turkish Medical Association (TTB) has been pressing for COVID-19 to be considered a professional hazard since the start of the pandemic.

Turkey's Health Ministry will pay monthly pensions to the families of healthcare workers who died during the COVID-19 pandemic, Turkish Radio Television (TRT) reported on Dec. 18. 

The Turkish Medical Association (TTB) has been fighting for COVID-19 to be considered a professional hazard for months to allow for families' compensation.

Families of deceased healthcare workers will also be allocated employment and financial aid as needed, TRT added. 

The TTB reported 11 healthcare worker deaths between Dec. 14 and Dec. 19, revealing an average of two healthcare professionals who die every day in Turkey.
