Turkish academic temporarily dismissed from university over HDP question in exam

Turkey’s Anadolu University has dismissed academic Associate Professor Bülent Yücel for three months over his questions in an exam on the country's regime as well as the closure case of the HDP.

Anadolu University has dismissed academic Associate Professor Bülent Yücel from the Faculty of Law for three months over asking questions on Turkey's presidential regime as well as the closure case of the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in an exam.

Yücel, who was teaching the General Principles of Constitutional Laws, referred to the presidential regime of Turkey, the “censorship” law, the closure case of the HDP, trustee mayors appointed to HDP-run mayorships in the exam dated Jan. 9, Mesopotamia News Agency reported on Jan. 14.

Thereupon, the rectorate of the university canceled the exam, citing the Council of Higher Education’s (YÖK) Law, and told students that a new exam will be held again on Jan. 19.

The rectorate also dismissed Yücel for three months.
