Famous pro-government singer Orhan Gencebay has argued that some countries “are doing every evil to overthrow (President) Erdoğan.”

“Our country has become one of the most important countries in the world with its recent achievements. However, some malicious countries are very disturbed by our successes and do every evil thing in order to overthrow the government of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who came to power with the votes of our people,” Gencebay told pro-government daily Sabah.

“In fact, their primary aim is not to overthrow Erdoğan, but to prevent Turkey. The West wants to rule our country as they wish, to make us obey, as it was in the previous periods. But our country has now surpassed them. French historians said, ‘God sent the Turks to the world to bring justice to the world', while German historians said, 'There will be no history after the Turks are removed from history',” Gencebay further argued.

The 78-year-old arabesque singer said President Erdoğan and his AKP government “have a great role in recent achievements and successes” of Turkey, and drew importance to the May 14 elections.

“Whatever Turkey does, it will do it respectfully and faithfully to human rights and values. It will never be an imperialist exploiter,” Gencebay added.

Gencebay is a very famous figure especially with his albums produced in the 1970s and 1980s during the arabesque wave in Turkey.
