Some 88 female operators completed their training and got appointed to positions at Metro Istanbul on Sept. 10.

The number of total female operators on the city’s metro trains is now 99, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu said as participated in the award ceremony for the women.

The municipality will also be opening a new metro line on Oct. 29, the mayor said, adding that they expect a daily 400,000 travelers on the European side’s new Mahmutbey-Mecidiyeköy line.

The mayor also said that he hopes to implement additional COVID-19 precautions on the city’s public transportation.
