88 female operators appointed to Istanbul Metro ahead of new line opening

Some 88 female operators have been recently appointed to Istanbul Metro as the metropolitan municipality prepares to open a new line on the European side on Oct. 29. Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu said they expect a daily 400,000 passengers on the new Mahmutbey-Mecidiyeköy line.

Some 88 female operators completed their training and got appointed to positions at Metro Istanbul on Sept. 10.

The number of total female operators on the city's metro trains is now 99, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu said as participated in the award ceremony for the women.

The municipality will also be opening a new metro line on Oct. 29, the mayor said, adding that they expect a daily 400,000 travelers on the European side's new Mahmutbey-Mecidiyeköy line.

The mayor also said that he hopes to implement additional COVID-19 precautions on the city's public transportation.
