Men killed 23 women in January, 14 women found dead in Turkey

Some 23 women were killed by men in Turkey in January, the We Will Stop Femicides Platform reported. Meanwhile, 14 women were found dead under suspicious conditions over the same period.

A total 23 women were killed by men in January in Turkey, the We Will Stop Femicides Platform said on Feb. 1, while 14 women were found dead under suspicious circumstances over the same period.

Seven women were killed by their legal spouses, six by men they were in relationships with, two by men they were formerly involved with, and four by relatives, including a son and a father.

A majority of 16 femicides in January took place in the woman's home, although two men commit these crimes in the streets. 

The motive behind 16 of these femicides remains unknown, while five of the women were killed for wanting to separate from the assailant.

Some 23 women were killed in December of 2020, while 27 died in femicides in January of 2020.
