Opposition Felicity Party provincial building subjected to attack in Karaman

Turkish Islamist opposition Felicity Party’s office in the central Anatolian province of Karaman has become the target of an attack. The move came after the main opposition bloc, including the Felicity Party, has announced CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu as the presidential candidate against President Erdoğan.

Unidentified assailants on March 8 attacked Turkish Islamist opposition Felicity Party’s (Saadet) office in the central Anatolian province of Karaman.

In the attack, the party’s logo was broken and office walls were damaged. There were no injuries due to the attack as the office was closed at the time. The party executives filed criminal complaints regarding the attack, Milli Gazete reported.

"There is much to say, but we will not depart from common sense," the office's Twitter account said.

Condemning the attack, Felicity Party Karaman provincial chair Yasim Koz said “There is no physical attack against us individuals. There is nothing clear about the assailants at the moment.”

"We have never experienced such an attack in Karaman. We've been in this building for the past year. It is significant that this event happened after the Nation Alliance announced its presidential candidate. I hope our people will give the best answer to political violence at the ballot box,” Koz added.

The Nation Alliance includes Republican People’s Party (CHP), Good (İYİ) Party, Felicity Party (SP), DEVA Party, Future Party and Democrat Party (DP). The bloc was formed to bring the parliamentary system back to the country instead of today’s presidential regime.

The bloc announced CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu as the joint presidential candidate this week.
