Turkey's Council of Higher Education (YÖK) announced that finals for the Spring 2020 semester would be carried out remotely, or that they would be replaced with alternative assignments.
"Finals and any other exams remaining in the semester will be carried out online, or will be replaced by alternative methods of evaluation," YÖK said in an official statement.Turkish education union protests moving up national examinations despite COVID-19 threat
The council noted that the decision was taken on the grounds that students' intercity travel for finals, and the assembly of large groups would risk further spread of COVID-19.
"The two things that are essential are that the evaluations are transparent and controllable, and that they consider the physical and mental well-being of students," the council said.
