Opposition Nation Alliance’s presidential candidate and Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has drawn attention to the deepening economic crisis from inside his kitchen, by showing plastic shopping bags.

Kılıçdaroğlu shared the video with the title of “Facts” and compared the current prices of food items in the shopping bags to how much they cost a year ago. Although Kılıçdaroğlu has been recording campaign videos in his modest kitchen for a while now, he was seen standing this time, instead of sitting at the table.

“The issue that you need to solve first of all next month is the food you will put on your table. But do you see the (ruling) coalition consisting of these radicals caring about these issues at all?” Kılıçdaroğlu asked.

“It is not just onion or meat that is expensive; everything is expensive. There is no more place left to do saving. As soon as we assume the power, the first job will be to put out the fire on the fields and then at the table. Look, I have purchased the most-bought stuff from the discount grocery shops that you frequently go to. I will tell their (items’) prices from a year ago and this morning,” Kılıçdaroğlu said, counting the prices one by one.

Kılıçdaroğlu finished off by saying that the opposition needs to come to power in the upcoming elections for the inflation problem to be solved.

Earlier this month, Turkey's Inflation Research Group (ENAG), founded by a group of independent academics, announced the annual inflation rate as 105.19 percent for April, far higher than the official figure of 43.68 percent.
